Minutes – 2021/02

Meeting Minutes – Monday, 1 February 2021

President Carey Mitchell called the February 1, 2021 meeting for the Wilson County Beekeepers Association to order at the Ward Ag Center.  A total of 36 members and guests were in attendance.   Minutes from the January meeting were approved as posted in the past newsletter.  The reported checkbook balance is $_____.

Old Business Discussed:

  • Petra collected dues…$10.00 WCBA and $20.00 TBA. IF you already paid your dues, be sure to stop and pick up this year’s membership book
  • A reminder—the Refresher Course is scheduled for Saturday, February 20 at 9:00 am. Bring a smoker, if you have one.

New Business Discussed:                                                             

  • Working on the Swarm List…let Petra know if there are any changes…this is for paid WCBA members only.
  • New catalogs are coming in…check the closet

Leonard’s Monthly To-Do

  • If you are planning on getting bees this spring, you need to order bees NOW!
  • Clean and repair equipment
  • Feed if you have less than 15# honey per hive (3 deep frames)

 What’s Blooming at our house:

  • Henbit

  • Maple buds are swelling
  • Mahonia
  • Hellebores (Lenten Rose)

Program:  Leonard Walker discussed how he uses a double screen to reduce swarming and increasing his honey production
