Meeting Minutes – Monday, 4 January 2021
President Carey Mitchell called the first meeting of 2021 for the Wilson County Beekeepers Association to order on Monday, January 4 at the Ward Ag Center to order. A total of 39 members and guests were in attendance. Minutes from the December meeting were approved as posted in the past newsletter. The reported checkbook balance is $____.
Old Business Discussed:
TBA held another virtual Board Meeting on December 14. Philip Chapman reported the following:
- Treasurer’s Income report through December 9 was $19,165.54. Petra Mitchell is to make deposits through the end of the year, at which point Shelia Voss will assume the treasurer’s position
- The adulterated honey lawsuit is East TN is moving forward
- Barry Richards is transferring current club data to the new WILD APRICOT. This system will allow members to pay with credit/debit card
- It was announced that the PickTN Conference for 2021 has been cancelled but plans for the 2022 are in progress
- All documentation has been filed for the 501c3 tax status
- Andrea Porter received a wooden plaque for being named the 2020 Beekeeper of the Year and Petra Mitchell received one for her 12 years’ service as TBA Treasurer
- David Hale made a motion that all TBA affiliated local associations choose a project, write a grant proposal and submit to the TBA Executive Committee by March 1, 2021 (for a short course, an education program or activity, or purchase a beekeeping kit for a new beekeeper) up to $200.00. Once project is complete, a summary report of fund usage needs to be provided by October 1, 2021. Failure to comply makes clubs ineligible for grant funds the following year
- A balanced budget was approved
New Business Discussed:
- Petra collected dues…$10.00 WCBA and $20.00 TBA. IF you already paid your dues, be sure to stop and pick up this year’s membership book
Leonard’s Monthly To-Do
- Clean and repair equipment
- Check for wind damage
- Feed pollen substitute if needed
- Feed if you have less than 15# honey per hive (3 deep frames)
- Order your bees NOW!!

Program: Sterling Earhart repeated his Resource Hive which was most informative, even if you heard it before. Resource Hive was purchased from Peter Zook, 1617 Stevenson Road, Franklin, KY 42134 (He is open Tuesday-Saturday…has no phone so it’s best to send him a letter and let him know what you want and when you will be coming to pick up your order)
