Minutes – 2020/11

Meeting Minutes – Monday, 2 November 2020

President Carey Mitchell called the Monday, November 2 meeting of the Wilson County Beekeepers Association to order.  A total of 21 members and guests were in attendance.   Minutes from the

October 5, 2020 meeting were approved as posted in the past newsletter.  The reported checkbook balance is $xxx.xx.  

Old Business Discussed:

  • Congrats again to this year’s W.T. Nolen New Beginner Scholarship winners…Chuck Benson, Judy Parrish, and Linda Sanders
  • Christmas Dinner is cancelled…Thank you Covid-19. We welcome 2021!!!!   However, we will be having a meeting.

 New Business Discussed:                                                             

  • TBA will be holding a Virtual Board Meeting on November 14. Invitation with link and agenda will be sent out by Howard Kerr.
  • As no one wanted to put their name on the WCBA ballot, the slate stands as:

President—Carey Mitchell
Vice President—Leonard Walker
Secretary/Treasurer—Petra Mitchell
Directors:  Philip Chapman, Dale McCleskey, Peggy Scholes
Alternates:  Margaret Cantrell, David Thompson, Leonard Walker

Leonard’s Monthly To-Do (so nice of Leonard to jump in to his new position)

  • Feed if necessary—dry feed, not liquid
  • Check for mites—treat if you plan
  • Install entrance reducers
  • Clean up around your hive…rake/mow/pull weeds
  • Ventilate
  • Place a weight on top of your hive
  • Store your unused honey supers

 What’s Blooming at our house:\

  • Elaeagnus “Autumn Olive”
  • Witch hazel
  • Smartweed
  • maybe a stray Aster

Program:  Sue Dickhaus from Blooms and More Co. had an interesting program on making salves and a good lesson in herbs and their benefits. 

 Announcements:

 December 7 – Although we are not having the Christmas Dinner, we will hold a meeting and have a speaker…our own Al Taylor—Which Bee is Right for Me?
