Meeting Minutes – Monday, 14 September 2015
Wilson County Beekeepers met for their monthly meeting on Monday, September 14 with President Carey Mitchell calling order. There were 71 members, visitors, and guests in attendance.
Minutes of the July 20 meetings were approved.
Old Business Discussed:
- Carey thanked everyone for the honey donations, frames, entries, wax, time spent at the booth, and basket fillings. We had 88 individual entries from 34 entrants. We collected $1,455.00 from the sale of honey/wax/basket raffle/bake sale. Congratulations to all winners at the Honey Show and a huge congrats to Kim Walter for winning the Bluest of the Blues Award. After selecting two names for the basket give-away, (the first one never answered the phone or returned any calls) Matt Hamlet from Lebanon was pleased to receive the basket
- TBA Conference is October 9 and 10…Petra has a copy of the program if you want to take a look. A lot of great speakers and topics run from beginner to advanced…something for everyone
- TBA voting ballot in the last Hive Tool. Have you voted yet?
- TBA is offering three one-day Conference scholarships (we have three delegates). This is for new TBA members. WCBA is offering 9 scholarships for first-time Conference attendees. If you are interested in attending, see Petra to get your name on the list. Registrations need to be in by September 25
- Early registration for the Conference is Friday, September 25…if you have your registration with you, Petra can take them…save on postage
New Business Discussed:
- Folders circulated that have lists for mentors…if you currently are on the list and wish to be taken off, please cross off your name. If you want to help, please put your name on the list.
- Christmas Charities list is also going around. If you would like to include any local charity, please add.
- Short Course is scheduled for Tuesday-Thursday, October 27-29. We had over 50 folks signed up at the fair. Registration information will be mailed out the beginning of October. Sign-up list is at the back table.
- We have some WCBA honey for sale (a quart left over from scraping the capping tub, and some that was given for hive grant commitment) at $20.00 per quart
- Elections will be held at the November meeting. Anyone wanting to take on a position (or let go of a current position), please let it be known so your name can be added to the ballot.
Well, Fred’s back and he presented his To-Do List:
- Inspect colony for queen-right
- Check stores
- Evaluate hives—better to have one strong hive vs 2 weak hives going into winter
- Read—-Read—–Read
The program this evening was Fall and Winter Management by Carey Mitchell who had handouts that can be found on the website if you didn’t pick one up at the meeting.
Announcements:
- Next meeting, Monday, October 5—Emergency Feeding with Arlis Swafford
Carey and Fred handed out door prizes, but someone forgot to save the tickets, so we do not have a list of winners for this meeting.
Meeting adjourned around 8:25 for refreshments and fellowship.
Respectfully submitted: Petra Mitchell, Secretary/Treasurer—
