Carey Mitchell, President of the Wilson County Beekeepers Association called the July 20 meeting to order with 41 in attendance.
Minutes of the July 6 meetings were approved.
Old Business Discussed:
- T-shirts and hats are in…also have new visors. A few extra shirts were available that were not pre-ordered
- Jessica Dodds and Mark Goodrich received the New Beekeeper Scholarship award including a $250.00 check as they were not present at the picnic
- Fair schedule was available for those wishing to give some time at the Honey Booth. Bears were also available for those donating honey. Bears will be sold for $5 each which also includes a ticket for the basket drawing. Separate tickets for the basket can be purchased for $1 each.
- A request for frames was made to do the extracting demonstrations on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights
- Accepting donations of items for the baskets we will be raffling off at the Fair. Would like to include jarred honey and other hive products.
- A reminder to grant winners…don’t forget to pay back honey owed association (those that received hive grants are asked for half of their honey crop and scholarship winners are asked for 2 gallons)
- TBA is offering three one-day Conference scholarships (for new TBA members). WCBA is offering 9 scholarships for first-time Conference attendees.
- Wilson County Fair is August 14-22 with entry date for the Honey Show being August 13 from 3-6:30 in the Veteran’s Building
New Business Discussed:
- Fair schedules and passes will be handed out after August 1
- Honey Producer List being compiled for distribution at the Fair
In Fred’s absence, Karen Dawson presented Fred’s To-Do List:
- Provide adequate ventilation
- Provide clean water with something that bees can stand on (sticks, pebbles)
- Supers to be processed within 2 days
- Keep the weeds down around hive
- Donate honey to the Fair
- Read—-Read—–Read
The program this evening was a review of the Honey Show. The only change this year was the increase in the premiums for the Observation Hives hoping to generate more interest.

With Fred not at the meeting, Carey and Kenny Birdwell handed out this month’s door prizes. . Congrats to this month’s winners: Diane Linder, Kim Walter, James Vantrease, Leonard Walker, and David Elliot.
Meeting adjourned around 8:10 for refreshments and fellowship.
