Meeting Minutes – Monday, 1 June 2015
On Monday, June 1, 2015, Wilson County Beekeepers President, Carey Mitchell, welcomed 97 members, family and guests to the annual picnic. Attendees were encouraged to sign the list at the table which will be used for attendance records and door prizes later in the evening. Also donation envelopes for New Leash on Life were available to be filled.
A special thanks was given to Andy and Julie Harper, Sterling Earhart, and Jim Murff for opening their bee yards for Field Day which had great attendance.
Cheatham County Extension (Ashland City) is hosting a Third Tuesday Workshop on Hive Splitting, Summertime Hive Management, and Honey Extracting on June 16. Chris Robbins is the contact for pre-registration or additional information.
Monday, June 15 is the Extracting Workshop at the East/West Building at the Ward Ag Center at 7:00 pm. No club business will be discussed.
Carey asked members to stand and WT led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and gave the invocation. Carey did mention that Friday will be WT and Hellon’s 66th anniversary.
Attendees enjoyed a most bountiful feast and fellowship.
Fred Dawson showed examples of the new hats that will be available at the July meeting…either khaki or pink at $10.00 each. Also the ordered shirts will be ready for pick-up.
Carey introduced Angela Chapman, new interim director of New Leash on Life who extended her sincere appreciation to the Wilson County Beekeepers who have selected her group to receive donations three years in a row. Besides the table full of donations, the club presented them with $673.00 in monetary donations.
Carey and Fred presented the first New Beekeeper Scholarships from the October 2013 Short Course. The four recipients this year were Philip Chapman and Sally Syes who were in attendance, Mark Goodrich (who had to leave early due to a family emergency) and Jessica Dodds (didn’t make the event). Philip and Sally each received a certificate of completion and a check for $250.00. Mark and Jessica will receive theirs at the next meeting attended.
Each attendee received a packet of ‘Pollinator Seeds’ from the Bayer group. Please plant!!!
The evening ended with the presenting of the door prizes…there were flower seeds, garden stakes, flags, lighters, garden art, garden gloves, flowers, vitex, fair passes, tomato plants (donated by Julie Harper), and Hardeman queens.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the evening and went their separate ways around 8:30.
