Meeting Minutes – Monday, 4 May 2015
Carey Mitchell, President of the Wilson County Beekeepers welcomed 97 members and guests to the May 4, 2015 meeting at the Ward Ag Center.
Those in attendance approved the April minutes as posted in the last newsletter.
Old Business Discussed:
- A reminder to newbees — be sure to get your bees ordered, if you haven’t done so and seek out a mentor that you can work with. Remember that it isn’t your mentor’s job to do your work and he/she can’t tell if you have a problem, unless
you notify them. Stay in contact. - Fred Dawson said he will be ordering caps in tan and pink for the ladies. Also, this is the final day to order shirts..
- Karen Dawson thanked those that helped with Farm Day and appreciated everyone’s involvement. She stated that she could use
more help next year. - Field Day is scheduled for May 23 and alternate rain day of May 30. Three yards: Mt. Juliet, Lebanon and Watertown. Veils are required.
- The Swarm List was set and members were asked to check to see that their information was correct.
New Business Discussed:
- WCBA is donating the video ‘Natural Beekeeping’ in honor of James Robinson to the Lebanon Public Library. Peggy and Andrew accepted the video for delivery
- The WCBA Newbee Scholarship was discussed for those that attended the October 2013 Short Course. Awards will be presented at the June picnic and those in the running are Phillip Chapman, Jessica Dodds, Mark Goodrich and sally Syes. Any other participants attending the October ’13 short course that feel they may be eligible are to contact Petra for review. Those attending the October 14 short course will be eligible next year.
- Petra discussed the picnic with is scheduled for June 1. The club is providing barbeque, coffee, cold drinks, eating supplies, and each family is asked to bring a covered dish AND a dessert. Volunteers are bringing sweet tea, unsweet tea and lemonade. Our charity (as voted on in November) is New Leash on Life and we will be gathering items on their wish list along with monetary donations. Invitations will go out two weeks prior to the event and RSVP’s are requested to be sure we have enough meat and seats.
