Meeting Minutes – Monday, 5 January 2015
The first meeting of 2015 for the Wilson County Beekeepers Association was held on Monday, January 5 at the Ward Ag Center. Carey Mitchell, President welcomed 100 members, guests, and visitors.
Membership approved the December minutes as posted in the last newsletter. Financial reports were available for those interested. Carey briefly explained the New Beekeeper scholarship program, which will be awarded this spring. Requirements can be found on the last page of the membership book
Old Business Discussed:
- Carey once again thanked all that generously donate to the Wounded Warrior Project which collected $1,120.00 at the Christmas Dinner
- The club purchased a wireless microphone which will help with the sound and volume, once we work out the kinks. (Fred did offer Carey a private lesson on use)
- NABA is hosting an advanced beekeeping seminar on Saturday, January 17. The cost is $25.00 which includes lunch and speakers will be Kent Williams and Clarence Collison.
New Business Discussed:
- A refresher workshop will be held Saturday, February 21 at 9:00 am. Afterwards there will be a TBA Board Meeting at 1:00 pm. As Wilson County is hosting the meeting, a request for cookies was made, which can be brought to the February 2nd meeting and frozen for later that month.
- Fred Dawson agreed to take on the t-shirt committee this year, but first we need to sell our current stock before we order new shirts…prices reduced to $10.00
- WT Nolen discussed bees and the Association recently on the local radio station.
Fred’s To-Do List:
- Bees Winter Needs: Shelter, ventilation, protein, carbohydrates
- Honey stores crucial next couple of months
- Make sure the outer cover is secure from the wind
- Make plans for 2015—equipment, packages, nucs, etc.
- READ—READ—READ — so you are set to go in 2015
The evening’s program was presented by Carey Mitchell, who discussed Spring Feeding. The outline for the program will be posted to the website, for those interested.
