Meeting Minutes – 1 June 2014
Wilson County Beekeepers Assn. President, Carey Mitchell, welcomed ninety members and guests to the annual June picnic on the 2nd at the Ward Ag Center.
Members were asked to sign the red sheets on the table, which will be used as the attendance roster and later in the evening or door prizes.
The membership was asked to stand for the Pledge and WT Nolen gave the invocation.
Carey thanked Andy & Julia Harper, Jim Murff, and Phillip Chapman for opening their bee yards for Field Day. From all accounts, it was a huge success.
Acceptance of the May minutes as posted in the last newsletter was approved.
A country ham was donated to the club to be raffled off at the end of the evening with all proceeds ($1.00 per chance) going to New Leash on Life.
The Fair Schedule was available for anyone wanting to get their name on the list early.
On June 16, there will be an Extracting Workshop—Monday at 7:00 pm—our usual meeting time and place. Anyone interested should show up.
Carey acknowledged that WT and Hellon Nolen will be celebrating an anniversary this month.
Members filled their plates with tasty food and delicious desserts. (I was told that one of the NABA members that attends on occasion says Wilson County Beekeepers have the best food)
Once bellies were full, Carey introduced Amy Haverstick, the Director of New Leash on Life who told the group about the shelter, their future vision, and graciously accepted the collected donations. She drew the name for the ham winner…Clara Vantrease. The ham drawing netted $138.00 and donations from the heart brought another $176.00 for a total donation of $315.00 for New Leash on Life, plus Wish List items.
Our in-house comedy duo of Carey and Fred gave away door prizes, including flowers and trees, tomato plants, garden flags, stakes, candy and gum, Hardeman queens, Wilson County Fair passes, and various other items.
Once the last door prize was given, it was time to pack up what was left of the food and venture home.
Respectfully submitted: Petra Mitchell, Secretary/Treasurer—Wilson County Beekeepers Association—June 3, 2014
