Meeting Minutes – 19 May 2014
One hundred and one members and guests of the Wilson County Beekeepers Association were welcomed by President Carey Mitchell on May 19, 2014.
The membership approved the April minutes that were posted in the last newsletter and the current checkbook balance as of the meeting date is ________.
Old Business Discussed:
- T-Shirts and hats have arrived. Anyone that preordered shirts were to pick them up and several extra shirts were ordered for those that did not pre-order. Hats are available for $10 each.
- Karen Dawson recapped that Farm Day was a big success…but cold. She thanked all those that volunteered to entertain and educate the second graders
- Field Day scheduled for May 24 with May 31. Only one change was made…the address on the Lebanon location is 836 Maple Hill Road, just down the street from the original 914 location.
New Business Discussed:
- The June Picnic is scheduled for Monday, June 2 at 7:00 pm…same location. RSVP’s are requested by May 30 so barbeque can be ordered. The Association will be providing the soft drinks, coffee, and meat. Each family is requested to bring a covered dish AND a dessert.
Volunteers were asked to bring 2 gallons each:
Sweet Tea—Margaret Cantrell, Norma Underhill, Sharon Nuss
Unsweet Tea—Candice Thompson, Denise Grogan
Lemonade—Shelly Insalaco, Jessica Dodds
We will be collecting Wish List Items or Donations from the Heart for New Leash on Life/Fix for Life
Fred’s To-Do List:
- Inspect colony for queen cells/congestion
- Watch for swarming
- Supers need to be on bottom super/checkerboard
- Reminder::: No feed or chemicals with supers on
- READ—READ—READ
Barry Richards, member of Nashville Area Beekeepers and North TN Beekeepers, plus the owner of Red River Bees presented a marvelous program on observation hives…both short term and long term.
A few announcements:
- Next meeting—June 2 picnic
- Helen Vose has an extra queen for sale that will be shipped on Wednesday
- Joe Riddle has 40 pounds of sugar for sale at $20.00 per bucked—see Petra
- Still have 1 pound bags of pollen available for $1.75 each
Carey and Fred handed out door prizes:
- 10-Framed slatted board from Rossman Apiaries won by Lindsay Gunter
- Honey candy from GloryBee won by Doyle Ferguson
- Mug from Walter T, Kelley won by James Vantrease
- Frame Cleaner won by Karen Dawson
- ‘The Classroom’ won by Mark Anderson
- Boardman Feeder won by Phillip Chapman
- Hat from ‘Blue Sky’ won by Dean Proctor
The club’s current checkbook balance is ________ after paying for picnic and refreshment supplies. Also several new books have been purchased for the library.
Meeting adjourned around 8:30 for refreshments and fellowship.
