Meeting Minutes – 04 March 2013
On March 4, 2014, some 135 members and guest of the Wilson County Beekeepers were welcomed by President Carey Mitchell for the monthly meeting.
Minutes from the February meeting was approved
Old business discussed:
- Membership dues are due. Be sure to pay and pick up your membership book…Bible to the association!
- Nuc orders have closed. Will contact members on date once it has been determined
- Package orders have been extended to March 15 at which time Full Payment of $85.00 per package needs to be made. They will be delivered to the Wilson County Ag Center.
- Who do we thank for the photos and frames on the piano in the closet?
- First Lessons in Beekeeping for sale–$8.00 each. Also have WCBA hats ($10) and shirts ($15)
- Newbees…everyone have their hives constructed?
New business discussed:
- Swarm list being circulated….sign up where you can help
- New inspector badges are in. See Petra before you leave
- Inspector Class scheduled for May 23-25 in the School Exhibits Building at the Ward Ag Center. Need a minimum of 3-4 years beekeeping and willing to do inspections. If interested, let Petra know.
- Mt. Juliet Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Toast to TN Wine Festival May 11 at Nashville Shores. Looking for someone to represent beekeepers and discuss bees with the public. Check with Petra for contact info
- There is a Hobbyist BeeMaster Class scheduled for March 14-16 in McMinnville. Cost is $50.00
- Farm Days (for all 2nd graders in Wilson County) will be May 8-9. Anyone wanting to help, please contact Peggy Scholes
- David Thompson recapped TBA board meeting
- Petra has a copy of signed Hive Grant contracts for recipients and mentors
Fred’s To Do List:
- Have equipment ready to go for bee packages and nucs
- Newbees—-review installation procedures
- Check stores
- Hive inspection—brood and queen
- Get your supers ready
- Rotate hive bodies—watch weather and make sure stores are available
- Read-Read-Read
The evening’s program was a very informative program on Natural Beekeeping by Trevor Qualls.
Next meeting is scheduled for April 8 (2nd Monday) with Kent Williams discussing Swarm Prevention and control.
The Beginner’s Workshop (refresher) was rescheduled for March 16 in the East/West building. Will need to bring smokers and lighters.
