Meeting/Dinner Minutes – 03 December 2012

On December 3, 2012, eighty plus members and guests of the Wilson County Beekeepers Assn. met at the Ward Ag Center for the annual Christmas Dinner.  Carey Mitchell, President, welcomed one and all.  He reminded everyone that we will be collecting for the Wounded Warrior Project and Fred Dawson will be coming around with a donation basket for those wishing to contribute.

Carey introduced the new officers for 2013, with not much change:   President—Carey Mitchell…..  Vice President—Fred Dawson…..Secretary/Treasurer—Petra Mitchell…..Directors:  Fred Dawson, Carey Mitchell, and Candice Thompson…..Alternates:  Sue Dickhaus, Jil LaBelle, and David Thompson, Sue Dickhaus continuing as librarian with Kelsie Meador as her assistant and Caryn Crowston doing the newsletter.

Carey asked WT Nolen to give the evening’s blessing before enjoying a most bountiful feast.  Bill Quinn had stated afterwards that if you went away hungry, that was no one’s fault but your own.

Fred Dawson announced that beekeepers were among the most generous folks around collecting $800 for The Wounded Warrior Project.

After bellies were full, we played a short Scavenger Hunt with families searching pockets and purses for a list of items.  In the end, Andy and Julia Harper had the most and won the prize.

Door prizes were handed out and everyone went home with something.

We were reminded that the first meeting of 2013 will be on January 7 with Clarence Collison as our guest speaker.  There is also a Short Course scheduled for January 22-24.

The club has purchased 30 copies of ‘The First Lessons in Beekeeping’ that are sold at cost after the short course.

With all of the help in clean-up, we were packed and ready to go home before 9:00 pm.
