Congratulations to Fred Corley on winning the 2012 Tom Hart “Bluest of the Blues” Award for his Dark Amber Extracted Honey entry.  Unfortunately, I did not get a photo of Fred’s winning entry, nor any other entries this year.  If you have photos of the 2012 WCBA booth, display, or any of the entries and wouldn’t mind sharing them on the website, please email them to, or contact me at:  cedarbees@gmail.com

For those of you that are NOT going to conference, but want to take part in the Honey Show, or the Honey Swap, please bring your items to the next meeting (Sept 10) and I will gladly take it to Conference.

Rules are on TBA’s website  www.tnbeekeepers.org .  The Honey Swap is simple … bring your labeled jar of honey (no larger than a pint)  and you trade for a jar of honey from somewhere in the State.

The Wilson County Beekeepers Association meets Monday, 10 September 2012 at 7:00 PM at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center on the Wilson County Fairgrounds in Lebanon Tennessee.

TDA Plant Certification and Apiary Program Administrator, Gray Haun, and TDA Plant Inspector 2, John Rochelle, have both been recognized for their outstanding career achievements by the National Plant Board.

Haun received the President’s Award for his work as co-chair on the Systems Approach to Nursery Certification and the USDA APHIS PPQ Deputy Administrator’s Outstanding Achievement Award for his participation and contributions toward the National Health Emergency Framework. Haun is a 26-year employee of TDA.

Rochelle is the recipient of the 2012 Carl E. Carlson Distinguished Achievement Award in Regulatory Plant Protection. This award honors an individual in the field of regulatory plant protection through service and contributions made at the field level. Rochelle has been with TDA since 1988. He specializes in greenhouse and Christmas Tree pests and diseases.
