Wilson County Beekeepers President Leonard Walker called the July 28, 2025 meeting to order with 49 members and guests in attendance. Approval of the July 28 meeting was made. Checkbook balance is $________. Financial report is at Petra’s table for viewing. Current paid membership stands at 212 paid members.
Old Business Discussed:
- Which singers do bees love? Sting, Beeyonce, and The Bee Gees
- Petra is still accepting items for the Fair Basket
- Fair entry and parking passes are available for those that volunteered to work the Honey Show booth. Thanks for all volunteers!!!
- Still needing frames for extracting demonstrations at the Fair.
- Looking for observation hives for the Fair. See Petra
New Business Discussed:
- New hats are in.
- Honey entries for the Fair are being taken in the Veteran’s Building on Saturday, August 9 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Judging will follow.
Allen’s Monthly To Do’s:
- Check your queens. If she is failing, now is a good time to replace her
- With it being so hot, be sure the bees have plenty of ventilation
- Make sure you have a water source. Can be as simple as a dish filled with rocks so bees don’t drown and fill with water
- Keep an eye out for robbing. If you see signs of it, add an entrance reducer
- Give extra attention to weak hives, as there is still time to strengthen
