Minutes – 2016/06

Picnic  Minutes – Monday, 6 June 2016

On Monday, June 6, 2016 eighty-eight Wilson County Beekeepers members and family swarmed to the Ward Ag Center for the annual picnic.  Carey Mitchell, president welcomed one and all.  Attendees were asked to sign up at the table and for those that wanted to make a monetary donation to New Leash On Life (our charity for this year) envelops were provided.  Carey announced that a country ham will be raffled off at the end of the evening and chances were $1.00 each.

No club business was discussed, as this was an evening of food and fellowship.

The membership stood for the Pledge of Allegiance with Mark Anderson leading us and the provided the invocation.

There were plenty of tables full of good foods and desserts so anyone that went home hungry was by their own doing.

After dinner, Fred collected envelops from the tables for the Ham which brought $88.00 and the donation envelopes had $534.00 for a total contribution to New Leash on Life in the amount of $622.00 plus the table full of items from the Wish List.  Carey presented the money to Angela Chapman, Executive Director of NLOL who was there with Chocolate, an 11 year old dachshund who is looking for her forever home.  Angela thanked everyone for their continued support of NLOL as they are not government funded.  They continue to operate by donations and grant.

This year’s New Beekeeper scholarships went to Tyson Davis and Robin Majors.  Unfortunately neither were present, but their certificates and $250.00 checks will be presented to them at a later date.

Door prizes were given out… there were heirloom tomato plants from Julia Harper, bedding flowers from Young’s nursery in Smithville, pins, lighters, seed packets, fair passes, Hardeman queens, and garden flags.  Everyone went home with something.

It was announced that the June 20th meeting is cancelled, as the rodeo is in town and there are no meeting spaces available at the fairgrounds.  We will meet again July 11 at which time, we will discuss the fair.  Fair schedule will be available along with bears for donations.  Will also be accepting bulk honey, if you don’t want to put it in bears.  The new t-shirts will also be available for those that ordered.  There were a few extras purchased if you didn’t get a chance to place your order.

Finally we had the drawing for the ham which went home with Candice Thompson.  Congrats!!!

After paying for the t-shirts and supplies/food for the picnic and scholarships, our checkbook balance stands at $——.

Respectfully submitted:  Petra Mitchell, Secretary/Treasurer
